Robert L. Oatman | Chairman of iJET Security Advisory Board | Executive Protection Expert and Author

Robert L. Oatman is one of the preeminent providers of executive protection in the United States. His firm, R. L. Oatman & Associates, Inc. has provided Executive Protection risk assessments, consultation, operations, and training around the world since 1989. The firm specializes in developing detailed protection plans for the top executives of Fortune 500 companies, as well as for private families. In addition, the firm operates an Executive Protection training school near its headquarters in Towson, Maryland.

Mr. Oatman is the author of Executive Protection: Rising to the Challenge (ASIS, 2009); Executive Protection: New Solutions for a New Era (Noble House, 2006) and The Art of Executive Protection (Noble House, 1997); the Executive Protection chapter in the industry standard Protection of Assets Manual (ASIS International, 2004); and numerous articles in Security Management magazine. He is also co-author of You’re the Target: Coping with Terror and Crime (New World Publishing, 1989). His experience includes overseas Executive Protection Service to NBC during the Olympics in 1988, 1992, 1996, and 2000.  In December of 2000, Mr. Oatman joined iJET’s Security Advisory Board. 

Mr. Oatman was director of protective operations at the Limited Brands, Inc., 1992-1997. Earlier, he served with the Baltimore County Police Department, retiring as major, chief of detectives. He trained with the United States Secret Service and supported dozens of high-level operations, including visits from presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush. Mr. Oatman holds a B.S. degree in criminal justice from the University of Baltimore and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Federal Executive Institute. In 2003, Mr. Oatman received the FBI Director’s Award for Exceptional Service in the Public Interest.


Henry (Hank) Degeneste | Former Director, NY/NJ Port Authority, CSO Prudential

Henry DeGeneste is the President of his own security consulting organization after holding senior executive positions in the public and private sectors. His firm, HDG Consulting, Inc. provides advice and assistance to clients on a broad range of domestic and international issues involving operational risk, crisis management, criminal justice management and public policy administration. With over thirty years  experience in senior leadership roles, he is currently focused on providing strategic advice to corporations and institutions of higher education to manage risk and develop emergency and security programs. Prior to establishing HDG Consulting, Inc. he was a Managing Partner at Security Directors Advisory Group (www.securitydirectors.com ). He is a Member of the Advisory Board for iJET Integrated Risk Management (www.ijet.com ). He has also served as an Advisory Board member for KeyPoint Government Solutions (www.keypoint.us.com) Previously he served for fifteen years as Senior Vice President of Global Security at Prudential Financial (www.prudential.com ) , and was the Vice Chair of the firm’s Crisis Management Committee. Prior to his tenure at Prudential he had a distinguished twenty-three year career at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (www.panynj.gov ) serving as the Director of Public Safety and Superintendent of Police.

Henry is a published author, and guest lecturer at many colleges and universities on crisis and risk management, emergency preparedness, international terrorism, transportation policing, aviation, rail and seaport security. He served for over fifteen years on the faculty of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. A trusted voice in risk management and law enforcement, Henry is actively involved in a wide variety of civic and public policy organizations, such as being a member of the Leadership Council of The Southern Poverty Law Center, the New York State Assembly Task Force “Unified Against the Challenges of Terrorism” and the International Association of Chiefs of Police as a life member.

He is also the former Chair of the New York City Chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security and a former Commissioner of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. He also served as the President of the National Organization of Black law Enforcement Executives. He is a sustaining member of the Police Executive Research Forum.

DeGeneste is active in the community through volunteer work and his service on several boards of directors including but not limited to, the World Trade Center Foundation, the Police Foundation, Washington, D.C., the Learning Disabled Access Foundation, the New York City Law Enforcement Explorers, Boys Choir of Harlem, Urban League of Hudson County New Jersey, Corporation for Justice and Opportunities, Inc., Newark, New Jersey, the Essex County New Jersey Offender Aid and Restoration organization, Chair of the United Hospitals Medical Center of Newark, New Jersey Foundation, Chair of the Greater Ocala Community Development Corporation, Ocala, Florida, Public Policy Institute of Marion County, Inc., Ocala, Florida, Awake Marion, Ocala, Florida and Marion’s United for Public Education, Ocala, Florida.

He has received numerous awards for his volunteer and charitable work including the “Pride of New Jersey” award from Governor Tom Kean, “Volunteer of the year” from New Jersey Special Olympics,  the “Whitney M. Young” award from the National Urban League and the “Distinguished Service Medallion” from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Henry earned his B.A. in Business Management from Adelphi University. He is also a David Rockefeller Fellow, a Leadership New Jersey Fellow and a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Executive Institute. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner, is Certified in Homeland Security-Level III and is a life member of the Criminal Justice Educators Association of New York State.


Bernard Galea | Former French Intelligence Service, CSO Danone

Bernard started his career in 1983 as air traffic controller in the French Navy before serving in the French Intelligence Service more than 17 years. He alternated positions in headquarters and in many countries abroad, especially in Asia, including a leadership position in special operations. He retired at the rank of Commander after 25 years.

Bernard holds a Master’s Degree in Global Risk and Crisis Management (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University) and several other degrees in operational management in financial analysis (ESSEC Business School, Paris). He was an auditor of the Institute for the Study and Security Research Enterprise (IERSE-INHESJ-Paris). Bernard was the first person from France to attend the ASIS Program for Security Executives from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

He holds an Executive Certificate in Technology, Operations and Value Chain Management (Strategy, Innovation, SCM) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

After retirement, he joined the international logistics company FM Logistic Corporate SAS in 2008 as Chief Security Officer for the Group. After setting up the function, he enlarged the scope to Strategic Intelligence and has worked in close relationship with the team dedicated to mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He had the responsibility of the program to enlighten and advise the board about competitors and risks around the world.

He was awarded Security Director of the Year in 2010 in private security awards ceremony in France and became chair of the ASIS French Chapter the same year. He is a member of the ASIS CSO Roundtable and adviser for A&B Strategy Company. He is the author of numerous articles on risk management, Strategic Intelligence, and international speaker of these topics. He was appointed Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and the Military Cross in 2005.

In October 0f 2015, Bernard was appointed as the Vice President, Global Chief Security Officer for Danone with the responsibility of Global Security and Competitive Intelligence worldwide. 

 

 


Thomas Locke | Former Assistant Director, FBI, JTTF NYC, Ran 9/11 Investigation

Tom Locke has decades of industry experience forged from a long and distinguished career with the FBI. Early in his career with the Bureau, Tom served as the supervisor of the first Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) in New York City. He also conducted the Bureau’s first extra-territorial terrorism investigation in 1983 after the American Embassy was bombed in Beirut, Lebanon. In 1985, he was temporarily assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration where he participated in Operation Blast Furnace, a joint effort between the U.S. Army, DEA and the Bolivian government to eradicate cocaine laboratories in the Amazon Jungle. He has been the on-the-scene commander in numerous terrorism, kidnapping, drug and other complex crisis management situations and investigations. As the events of September 11, 2001 unfolded, he was called upon to staff, direct, and oversee the FBI’s worldwide investigation of the tragedy that happened on that day. Tom served his last year with the Bureau as Acting Assistant Director of the FBI’s Inspection Division before retiring in 2002. Since his retirement, he has operated his own global security consulting and investigative firm, servicing prestigious clients such as Northrop Grumman and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, as well as major law firms in Washington, New York, and London. He also serves as Managing Director for the BGR Group, a well-known government affairs firm in Washington, D.C. He continues as an active voice in the security industry.


Richard (Dick) Mainey | Former CSO IBM, Morgan Stanley, Marsh & McLennon

Dick has over 40 years in the security industry, holding Global Security Director positions at Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC), Morgan Stanley and IBM. At each of these Fortune 500 companies, he managed and developed the security program in over 100 countries. An engineer by training, Dick has ardently applied technology and process to the security discipline as well as to protecting people, information and physical assets. Dick has a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduate work at Pace University. He is a life member of ASIS International and the International Security Management Association (ISMA). Dick has been very active with the State Department’s Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) both as a co-chairman and alumni member. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh New York and is President of the Board of Trustees for the Fishkill New York United Methodist Church.


Luke Ritter | Principal at Ridge Global, Transportation Security Expert

Mr. Ritter leads the Global Trade Security practice at Ridge Global, a firm founded by the Honorable Tom Ridge, the first U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security and 43rd Governor of Pennsylvania. He is the co-author of Securing Global Transportation Networks (McGraw Hill), which has received widespread critical acclaim from industry publications such as Logistics Today, The Maritime Executive, Traffic World, and Supply Chain Management Review. Mr. Ritter is a board certified Transportation & Logistics Professional (American Society of Transportation and Logistics), and has spoken at more than thirty five industry and trade events in the last five years, including the keynote addresses at The American Association of Port Authorities Annual Security Conference. He is a former U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer. Mr. Ritter holds a BS from the U.S. Naval Academy, and an MBA from Old Dominion University.


Jun M. Yamazaki |

Jun M. Yamazaki has over 40 years of experience helping multinational organizations establish strategic processes for risk mitigation. Mr. Yamazaki helped shape the corporate risk management industry in Japan, serving as director of the Japanese office of Control Risks Group, a leading global business risk consultancy for 15 years before founding his own consulting group, Kameya Limited in 2008. He holds a legal degree from Keio University and is a regular security and crisis management lecturer at Waseda University in Tokyo. In May 2009, he published the book, “Japan Will Sink In The Sea Of Somalia”, warning of the grave risks of the Somali piracy issue for Japanese business ventures abroad.

Michael V. Callahan, MD, DTM&H, MSPH | Medical Evacuation, Infectious Disease

Dr. Callahan is Associate Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and tropical medicine and is a licensed Command Physician with Rescue Medicine, an international medical evacuation service provider which has accrued an expatriate risk actuary of 39000 expatriate life-years, the most comprehensive database in health risk assessment. Dr. Callahan entered federal service as program director for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), where he managed 7 remote medical care and therapeutics programs in excess of $220M over eight years, resulting in novel therapeutics for altitude acclimatization, emergency anti-infectives and mass casualty care medicine. Dr. Callahan's federal responsibilities include serving the Office of the President and National Security Counsel of two administrations and execution of health threat assessments from the bedside of foreign referral hospitals under the White Coat Diplomacy and federal interagency cooperative programs for countering pandemic influenza and highly dangerous pathogens. Since 1998, he has deployed to over 17 UN disaster and disease outbreak operations including the 2003 SARS-CoV, 2004 Marburg, 2001-2012 Ebola outbreaks, and 3 H5N1 clusters. Dr. Callahan is guest professor of medicine with teaching attending privileges at national teaching hospitals in Bangkok, Beijing and Jakarta and is currently executing 3 IRB trials for highly dangerous pathogen care in Nigeria, DRC and Indonesia. He has been a member of the iJET medical advisory board since 2003.


Bradley A. Connor, MD | Travel Medicine, Former President of ISTM

Bradley A. Connor, M.D. is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and founder and Medical Director of Travel Health Services, New York’s first private travel medicine clinic. Dr. Connor is also the director of the New York Center for Travel and Tropical Medicine, a facility devoted to teaching and research in travel and tropical medicine. He is co-editor of a widely published travel and tropical medicine textbook, Travel Medicine.

Dr. Connor is Past President of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM), an organization of over 2000 physicians and allied health professionals in over 65 countries. He is a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and has been part of the Health Information for International Travel working group in the Division of Global Migration since 1997. He is the New York City site director for GeoSentinel, the emerging infectious diseases network of the CDC and ISTM and has worked on avian influenza surveillance with the CDC and New York City Department of Health. Dr. Connor served on the task force in Travel Medicine at the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2003.

He has also served as a consultant to the White House Medical Unit in the Clinton and Bush administrations and is an advisor in Travel Medicine for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team.

Dr. Connor is a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA-F) and was awarded Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) FFTM, FRCPS.


Cai Glushak | Medical Evacuation, Energy Medicine

Dr. Glushak has a long history of medical direction in their fields of transport medicine and aeromedical services. He is the International Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer of AXA Assistance and AXA Travel insurance. He has provided medical direction for travel and corporate assistance for over 17 years and currently heads a team of over 20 medical directors and over 300 medical staff throughout all offices of AXA Assistance globally, promoting best practices in international medical care as well as medical aspects of cost-control. He is also Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Section of Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago with extensive background in medical transportation (air and ground). Before joining AXA Assistance, Dr. Glushak was the EMS Medical Director for the University of Chicago Hospitals for nearly two decades providing medical oversight for ambulance and transport services for the City of Chicago.

He is a member of the National Transitions of Care Coalition and promotes the use of professional medical call centers to address the medical needs of patients worldwide. Dr. Glushak is a Board Certified Emergency Physician and received his medical degree and bachelors in physiology from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec Canada.


Stephen O. Cunnion, MD, PHD, MPH | Disease Outbreak Investigation, CBRE

Dr. Cunnion retired from the US Navy in 1998 after many years as a disease outbreak investigator before teaching infectious disease epidemiology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and then becoming the Director of Preventive Medicine and Occupational Health for the Navy and Marine Corps. He was selected by the State Department and Department of Defense to be the principle investigator for chemical and biological warfare allegations in Southeast and South Asia. Later, the Department of Defense appointed him as the program manager for the Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation Program for Persian Gulf Illnesses. The originator of the first worldwide military medical information network, he currently runs an international health consulting service advising overseas governments and their universities and institutes in preventive medicine and epidemiology. Dr. Cunnion alerted the world about SARS and received the ProMED reporting award for that year.


Davidson H. Hamer, MD | Global Health Infrastructure, Evacuation, Tropical Disease

Dr. Hamer is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases with a deep interest in tropical diseases. He is currently the Director of Research and Evaluation at the Zambia Center for Applied Health Research and Development (ZCAHRD) in Lusaka, Zambia and is affiliated with the Center for Global Health and Development at Boston University. Dr. Hamer is a Professor of International Health and Medicine at the Boston University Schools of Public Health and Medicine. Much of his current research focuses on testing practical, policy-relevant interventions to reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality in resource-limited countries. From 1990 to 2004, he was Associate Professor of Medicine and Nutrition at Tufts University School of Medicine and spent ten years functioning as the Director of the Traveler's Health Services at New England Medical Center. He also served as the Associate Director of the Infectious Diseases Center at the New England Medical Center. From 1996 to 2000, Dr. Hamer worked as a medical consultant and medical director for the Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation. This position afforded him the opportunity to assess local and regional medical facilities and evacuation services internationally. From 2005-2011, Dr. Hamer served as the Director of the Boston Medical Center Travel Clinic. From 2011-2012 he served as the President of the Clinical Group for the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and he currently is on the Executive Board of the International Society of Travel Medicine.
