Government Competition Highlights iJET’s Intelligence Process
Annapolis, Maryland - September 16, 2008
iJET Intelligent Risk Systems, a leading provider of global intelligence and business resiliency services, recently won top honors at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) Open Source Conference 2008 for its participation in the first-ever “Open Source Challenge.” iJET’s team of intelligence experts were recognized for providing the most innovative and relevant answer to a challenge question using open source research, applying industry expertise, and incorporating sound intelligence analysis into a summary answer.
“This was a challenging contest and it is great to have our intelligence process independently validated by some of the most senior people in the intelligence community,” said Eric Boger, Director of Border Intelligence Programs with iJET and the 2008 Challenge Team captain. ”Earning this award demonstrates iJET’s strength in the intelligence community, and showed us that many in the community know about iJET and what sets our intelligence apart.”
As part of the second annual ODNI Open Source Conference the challenge brought together 24 teams from the academic, media, think-tank and industry communities as well as federal, state and local governments. Teams were given the choice of answering one of two questions. One week was spent conducting research and analysis, resulting in a three-page written report and accompanying PowerPoint presentation. A team of senior intelligence community representatives judged each of the entries for precision, new insight, creativity, data visualization, sourcing and use of open sources and timeliness. A top winner was selected for each question and was asked to present their findings at the closing plenary session of the conference.
iJET successfully answered the question, “According to open sources, who will be the global leader in alternative fuels and why?” iJET’s open source intelligence pulled from two key areas: information and insights gleaned from recognized energy industry experts; and intelligence pulled from analyzing sector trends. Analysts identified, through peer recognition and citation analysis, experts most likely to give credible and reliable assessments and interviewed them. To analyze ongoing trends, iJET identified companies, funds and individuals funding alternative energy technologies and examined alternative energy sector reports published by reliable sources. The findings were combined to create the Challenge report.
The conference was held Sept. 11 and 12. Challenge winners were announced Sept. 11 and presented their findings on Sept. 12.
